My Blueberry Jam

I'm on blogging mode today! Haha or maybe I'm just trying to make up for the days I didn't. But anyways, I did something totally random today. I made blueberry jam! Yes and it was the first time I ever made jam. Blueberry's a common fruit here at our house since my parents are now obsessed with eating healthy. And we basically eating it like popcorn, especially those nice big, sweet ones.
Here's and interesting fact from goggle: Canadian exports of blueberries in 2007 were $323 million, the largest fruit crop produced nationally, occupying more than half of all Canadian fruit acreages.

So I thought for a change why not try something different. As a kid I wasn't a fan of any kind of jam. I didn't even like those jam filled donuts. But it's a whole new story. Now I'm starting to eat jam more often with bread, and I like to add some peanut butter in my jam sandwich. But anyways back to the blueberry jam making! Here's how I did it:
I sorted the blueberries and removed any stems or leaves. Then I washed them.
I used a potato masher to crush all the blueberries.

Then I added the sugar (about the same amount of as the berries). And then I added a few drops of lemon. Ater that I put everything to boil.
I had to wait a LONG time for it to boil, stiring here and there. But when it reached this look, I decided it was probably done. Haha, I had no clue since I wasn't following a recipe!
Here is my finished product! I'm very proud of it even though I haven't tasted it until now. It's in the fridge cooling. I did notice though that it seems to be a little bit "runny", probably because I didn't put in PECTIN, which is a powder substance put in jams so they have that "solid" outcome. Nevertheless it still looks like jam. Plus it's homemade, better than the store bought ones where there's chemicals put in it. I am looking so looking forward to eating it with my toast tomorrow morning.  :)
